Mountain

There are plenty of good reasons for heading up to Mt Hutt today. No crowds, no queues, no wind - just acres of pristine trails and the prospect of a fine sunny day. Lean snow conditions continue to limit off-trail skiing and riding but there are a few nice wind blown pockets around that could be worth a look at.

Weather

This morning it is clear and calm in the base area and cloud is just hovering around the top of the mountain where the wind is averaging around 20km/h. Forecast for today shows the low cloud quickly clearing away to a fine, sunny day with light winds. Certainly a lot warmer than the past few days with a minimum temp of -3 degrees at the summit.

Access Road

Chains are required on 2WD vehicles from Canterbury View. Our chain hire and fitting service is operating - EFTPOS is accepted. All other vehicles must carry chains and you'll need to bring your own chains if you have low profile or larger 4WD tyres. We want our road to feel as safe as possible so please provide us with details of any vehicle you observe speeding or driving recklessly so that we may follow up with the driver.

Don't Forget...

With the kids back at school the mountain is all yours to enjoy. This is a great time to team up with a few of your mates and arrange a private lesson with one of our qualified ski or snowboard instructors. Private group lessons start from as low as $35pp (one-hour private with a group size of 5-6 people). With many rock hazards off trail, we strongly recommend the use of helmets at Mt Hutt and sell a great range in our Retail shop on the mountain.
